LLMs are often criticized for 'regressing to the mean/prior/whatever.' They certainly do seem to often occupy a 'mix of all colors brown' in their opinions and statements. Does this extend to the concept of persona? What about when LLMs roleplay—do they tend to exaggerate that which is especially distinct about a distribution or do they instead emphasize parts of a distribution that are representative of the role they are playing, but acceptable to other roles? In other words: Is LLM persona mode covering or mode seeking?
