Recognizing that aDNA research is fundamentally transdisciplinary, this idea studies the scientific process itself by treating the literature as a population of "ideas." A massive citation network of aDNA-related papers would be built, tagging each by primary discipline. Network analysis would identify "migrated" concepts adopted across fields, "hybrid" papers synthesizing disciplines, and track the evolution of specific hypotheses like the "Thrifty Gene." This meta-research provides a roadmap for the field, highlighting successful collaborations and intellectual gaps needing cross-pollination. It is a novel application of computational methods to understand the collective evolutionary journey of scientists.
